What is the Perfume Project?

This blog is a constantly evolving forum for thoughts on perfume, perfume-making, plants (especially orchids and flora of the Pacific Northwest) and life in general. It started out chronicling the adventures of Olympic Orchids Perfumes, established in July 2010, and has expanded in other directions. A big part of the blog is thinking about the ongoing process of learning and experimentation that leads to new perfumes, the exploration of perfumery materials, the theory and practice of perfume making, the challenges of marketing perfumes and other fragrance products, and random observations on philosophy and society. Spam comments will be marked as such and deleted; any comments that go beyond the boundaries of civil discourse will also be deleted. I am grateful to all of you, the readers, who contribute to the blog by commenting and making this a truly interactive perfume project.

A MIDWINTER GIVEAWAY


I’ve been away from the blog for way too long, so as a way to lure back those readers who have given up reading, thinking that I would never post again, I’m doing a random drawing. I’m sure the extreme cold has numbed the brain of everyone in the northern hemisphere and turned you into shivering zombies huddled around a fire somewhere, so I’m not expecting you to think, and I’m not expecting you to write anything more than a random word or two to let me know that you’re still out there and surviving whatever the winter has brought you.

What can you win? One of the Olympic Orchids Holiday Gift Sets. For readers in the US, it includes three 15-ml sprays, an ounce of bath oil, and a full-size soap. For international readers, it’s a small gift box with three 15-ml sprays. There will be one winner in each category.

All you have to do is leave some sort of comment. It doesn’t matter what, as long as it isn’t spam. The drawing will take place a week from today, on Sunday, December 15.

    I never miss a post! In fact, earlier today I was emailing a UK friend about the problems with the extreme cold here in Seattle and our Hummingbird feeder, then I read your last post regarding the same subject and had to forward that to him as well. :)

    Sorry Ellen that I have not posted. I have enjoyed your blog and have printed numerous of your older posts they being so educational.

    I do wish to meet you in person to chat, sniff and purchase. I am hoping that there will be another "Seattle Artisan Fragrance Salon" next year. I am planning a first-ever trip to the Northwest for this upcoming Salon and look forward to dates being announced so that I can book airfare etc.

    I always check every few days to see if you've posted, and here you have a generous draw as well as the Saturday post of hummingbirds and orchids coping with this unusually dry, cold weather.     As an international reader, I appreciate a worldwide character of this generous giveaway. I had a privilege to try some of Olympic Orchids perfumes(as California Chocolate and Olympic Rainforest). Beside the fact I love them, there's an obvious excellent quality of raw materials and this is very important to me. So, I took advantage of Deluxe Variety Box a few days ago.
