What is the Perfume Project?

This blog is a constantly evolving forum for thoughts on perfume, perfume-making, plants (especially orchids and flora of the Pacific Northwest) and life in general. It started out chronicling the adventures of Olympic Orchids Perfumes, established in July 2010, and has expanded in other directions. A big part of the blog is thinking about the ongoing process of learning and experimentation that leads to new perfumes, the exploration of perfumery materials, the theory and practice of perfume making, the challenges of marketing perfumes and other fragrance products, and random observations on philosophy and society. Spam comments will be marked as such and deleted; any comments that go beyond the boundaries of civil discourse will also be deleted. I am grateful to all of you, the readers, who contribute to the blog by commenting and making this a truly interactive perfume project.

LET THE AUGUST DRAWINGS COMMENCE!

I have been selling off all 30 ml bottles in the old packaging, and gave myself a deadline of 15 August to move them all out. There are a couple left, which I promised to give away in a combined drawing (here and on Facebook), so here goes with the first bottle. It's 30 ml of Little Stars EdP, the very last one.

It's a pretty big prize, so I'm going to make you work just a little for it. All you have to do is leave a comment saying which Olympic Orchids sample you would like to try (or share with a friend) along with the full bottle of Little Stars. The winner will be announced on Friday, 22 August.

    What a generous drawing! I have been telling myself I have to sample Olympic Amber for months now, as I am a sucker for Ambers. Also on my list to try is Blackbird, Gujarat, and Seattle Chocolate. Looks like its about time for a Discovery Set!

    I already have and really LOVE "Little Stars". I don't need to be greedy so DNEM. However, at some point I have to get a sample (or a bottle ) of that "Wood Fence" - AKA ?

    It is a tough choice, so can I say it is a tie between Ballet Rouges and California Chocolate? If I had to pick one, I guess I would give a slight preference to California Chocolate :)

    Well, I've tried Dev#3, Gujarat, Ballets Rouges & Amber. Already purchased Rainforest, Tropic of Capricorn & Dev#2 (they are on the way), so there's only 30 more to try :D
    I'd love to smell all of Olympic Orchids fragrances, 'cause I find them very artistic, well balanced & close to the nature.
    This time my pick will be Blackbird.

    Olympic Rainforest. A few years ago I was trying to make a northern rainforest scent myself, but could never get it right so I gave it up. I'd love to see how you handled it!

    Olympic Rainforest sounds amazing! Having grown up in the Lake Forest Park I spent most of my childhood in the forest behind our house. I can't imagine how wonderful it would be having that captured as a perfume!

    In looking at your website, Dev One looks pretty wonderful as well.
